Planning and Research - Analysis

In class we analysed the music video to Gerri Halliwell’s ‘it’s raining men’. During this process we discussed the main themes and came to the conclusion that they were intertextuality and voyeurism. Some of the scenes that reflect voyeurism are when Gerri is in her dance audition and there is one boy who begins to watch her through the door, gradually more people join him to watch her dance. There is also exhibitionism being portrayed as she is also being watched by the judges, whom are predominantly male and she knows this so therefore is using her feminine ways and sexuality to get what she wants. This causes the power shift between the judges and Gerri, making her have more authority. Also in this video her dog is in the mise-en-scene this creates the effect of realism as at this particular time in Gerri’s life she had just split from the spice girls and was always seen walking with her dog everywhere she went.

Planning and Research - First Music Video Aired
